Letter of recommendation for Dr Brendon Gill to AOAC Official Methods Board

I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Dr Brendon Gill for his consideration as a member of the AOAC Official Methods Board.

I have worked closely with Brendon for the past 8 years, since taking up the role of Regional Laboratory Manager – Nutritional Laboratories. During the time I have worked with Brendon he has been in the role of Senior Research Scientist based at Fonterra Waitoa. He has reported directly to myself as well as being a technical expert who supports both myself and the Fonterra Waitoa Laboratory. Working with Brendon I have had the opportunity to observe or participate in a wide range of activities that he has been part of. During this time my admiration for both his technical and business skills has grown, as he has developed within his role and also grown his reputation, within Fonterra and the wider scientific community.

Brendon has a strong scientific knowledge that he is able to articulate clearly, both verbally and written, to a wide audience.

While his main focus is research and the development of the testing capability of our Laboratory, he also has a strong ability to consider and understand our business needs. This makes him a valued member of our decision making team within the laboratory. He has proven himself capable of maintaining a high level of confidentiality in all aspects of his role. Brendon has shown himself to be a strong team member, he always participates positively, shares his knowledge, meets his commitments to the team, but is also not afraid to challenge effectively to ensure that the team is completing due diligence to an issue or improvement. As part of the Laboratory Research & Development team, Brendon has continued to build his reputation across Fonterra and in the many international forums he belongs to. He has been able to do this due to his focus on people, his good business sense, a strong passion for science and his willingness to put his hand up to complete tasks/actions.
