AOAC CASP Meeting

Background

• Individual states agree that all cannabis users should know what is in  their products.  • Residual solvents may have more deleterious effects on medically  compromised persons.  • Even the most efficient extraction processes leave behind residual  solvents. • USP <467> addresses residual solvents used in the manufacture of drug  products

Background • Using USP <467> as a guide and supplementing with current action levels specified  by states (effective June 2019), the Working Group decided on the list of residual  solvents.     See SMPR Table 1 • Consistent with both State delineations and USP, the table references 3 solvent  classes based on risk(s) to human health. • Class 1:  known & suspected human carcinogens; environmental hazards  solvents should be avoided in product manufacture • Class 2: nongenotoxic animal carcinogens; potential contributors to reversible  toxicities solvents should be limited in product manufacture

• Class 3: no known or low contributions to human risk Solvents recommended for cannabis extract production
