Conclusions

The precision figures obtained during this collaborative study show that Official Method 2014.02 complies with the requirements set in the corresponding SMPR, and, thus, it is fit for purpose for the analysis of vitamin B 12 (cyanocobalamin) in infant formula and adult/pediatric nutritionals. Additionally, the accuracy of the method was demonstrated by agreement of results on SRM with reference values. Both HPLC or UHPLC conditions have proven to be of equivalent performance, allowing for method applicability in all laboratories. These data were submitted to the ERP for review at theAOAC International annual meeting held September 2016 in Dallas, Texas. The ERP determined that the data presented met the SMPR set by SPIFAN and, hence, recommended the method to be granted Final Action status. We would like to specially thank Colleen Fehrenbach at Covance Laboratories (Madison, WI) for the dispatch of the samples to the participants.
