INTERNATIONAL STAKEHOLDER PANEL ON ALTERNATIVE METHODS (ISPAM)
Patrick Bird Q Laboratories, Inc.
Pat is entering his 13th year at Q Laboratories where he serves as the Supervisor of the Microbiology Research & Development Laboratory. The primary role of his team is to serve as an independent third-party Expert Laboratory with a focus on conducting method validations and verifications for rapid diagnostic microbiological methods. These validations include Independent laboratory evaluations for AOAC Official Methods
of Analysis, AOAC Research Institute Performance Tested Methods Program, MicroVal and AFNOR NF Certification Programs. Through Q Laboratory’s OA membership, Pat has been an active member in AOAC International for 10 years. Pat currently serves as an at-large member to the AOAC Research Institute Board of Directors and is serving his second term as the lead for the microbiology community for AOAC’s Technical Programing Council. Pat has authored and co- authored numerous poster presentations at the AOAC Annual Meeting and has presented over 14 OMA validations to the Microbiology Expert Review Panel as part of the OMA First Action submission process. In 2014, he was a co-study director awarded with the Multi-Laboratory Study of the Year for Microbiology. Pat is also an active member of the US ISO/TC34/SC9 delegation and is a part of two working groups: WG3 for Method Validation and WG19 Guidelines for conducting challenge studies. Pat holds a BS in Microbiology from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and a MS in Food Safety from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.
