AOAC Method Validation (August 29, 2018)
False Positive/False Negative Rates/Sensitivity vs. Probability of Detection (POD)
Points of Clarification X POD concept includes the ratio of positive results to all replicates PLUS a confidence interval, usually 95% confidence. X Commonly, 90% (or .90) POD with 95% confidence; X which equates to 30 correct analyses out of 30 trials, X but could be greater numbers of trials, which allows for some errors, X but not 27 correct results out of 30 trials. X Does not mean the assay being evaluated only detect 90% correctly.
False Positive/False Negative Rates/Sensitivity vs. Probability of Detection (POD)
Background X AOAC as an organization has been using the POD model as the preferred alternative rather than false positive/false negative rates in both chemistry and biothreat agent SMPRs since 2011. X However, use of in the POD model had been less accepted outside of AOAC.
