Sample Enrichment

Samples were prepared for testing with either the BAX® System method or the appropriate

reference culture method as summarized in Table 1. Meat, poultry, and pet food samples

were enriched in Buffered Peptone Water according to the USDA-FSIS and/or Compendium

methods for reference method testing, other sample types were enriched in LB as per the

FDA-BAM, while BAX® System samples were enriched in either BAX® System MP media,

TSB + novobiocin, and/or tested directly from the reference method enrichments. All

enrichments, without respect to presumptive result, subject to culture confirmation and

isolates were biochemically and serologically confirmed by the appropriate culture

methodology where suspect colonies were present, with at least one confirmed colony

obtained from an enrichment being counted as a positive sample.
