How do I know what strain I have? Bacterial Verification

Strain name was written on the vial Performed a PCR‐ confirmed presence/absence of plasmid or gene Performed a phenotypic test‐ Gram stain, motility test, etc. Performed a biochemical test – catalase, oxidase, nitrate reduction etc. NGS data‐ aligned against what standard? BLAST from 16s, gyrB , hsp60 , etc Internal standard in your lab.

Outside of the original publication‐ phenotypic performance is captured in texts, such as Bergey's Manual  of Systematic Bacteriology ‐ and Bergey’s Manual of Determinative Bacteriology and various peer reviewed  publications. Many of the texts only define species.  Genetic sequences are captured in various peer reviewed publications and databases.
