AOAC SPIFAN Vanillin Working Group (December 13, 2022)

METHODS OVERVIEW AND FIGURES OF MERIT

 GB5009.284-2021: Method I, II, and III included in document.  Method III: GC-MS Method.  Sample is acidified, extracted with acetonitrile, purified with an SPE column, concentrated with N2 gas and reconstituted in methanol and filtered through a 0.22 µm filter.  A polar quartz capillary column (polyethylene glycol) is used for chromatographic separation with helium carrier gas flowing at 1.0 mL/min  Detector ionization mode is EI with Selected Ion Monitoring (SIM). 3 ions are monitored for each analyte and deuterated internal standard. Blank values are subtracted from sample results.  Method LOQ is 0.05 mg/kg. Precision of duplicates is reported as ≤ 15%.  Other Methods: 1. Different Extraction Procedure (No SPE). 2. SPME Prior to GC-MS Analysis 1. 1.Baocheng Qu, Jingqiu Jiang, Xiqin Mao, Guangbin Dong, Yijun Liu, Li Li & Hongxia Zhao (2021) Simultaneous determination of vanillin, ethyl vanillin and methyl vanillin in Chinese infant food and other dairy products by LC-MS/MS, Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A, 38:7, 1096 1104, DOI: 10.1080/19440049.2021.1902573 2. 2.Wang, Zhiyuan & Zeng, Guangfeng & Wei, Xiaoqun & Ding, Bo & Huang, Cheng & Xu, Baojun.
