Discussion “ Fluoride Determination in Milk, Soy, and Water-Based Products Using Ion-Selective Electrode and Direct Measurement Technique” was first validated for use in 2000. The validation protocol included the analysis of the following types of samples: - Infant formula (milk-based) - Hydrolyzed casein-based infant formula

- Infant formula (soy-based) - Adult therapeutic nutritional - Adult nutritional - Adult advanced therapeutic nutritional - Adult metabolic formula - Rehydration solution - Two commodities

The method was based on one provided by the vendor of insoluble calcium salts. This method used concentrated hydrochloric acid to hydrate and dissolve the salts, disassociating the fluoride bound to the calcium. Citrate buffer (1M) was added to buffer the solution and
