Analytical range The required analytical range of 30–200 in the SMPR is expressed as µg fluoride/100 g reconstituted powder (reconstitution: 25 g infant formula into 200 g water). In this report all concentrations are expressed as mg fluoride/kg dry powder. The required analytical range in the latter unit is 2.7– 18 mg/kg. The general test range in this study was 0.17–67 mg/kg, so the required range is well covered. In cases where comparison with the SMPR are discussed, units might be converted to reconstituted product. In that case this will be clearly described. Limit of quantification (LOQ) Optimally the LOQ should be determined in a real-life sample. Since no absolute blank infant formula is available, the LOQ will be determined from the recovery of spiked samples with a low native concentration of fluoride. The LOQ will be determined by 6-fold analysis, on at least two different days, of a QC sample spiked at the LOQ level. The required recovery at the LOQ level is 80–120%.
