Mass Spectrometry During method development, product ion scans of the fragmentation of a standard of taurine and 13 C 2 15 N taurine [M+H] + ions were performed (Figures 7, 8). Product ions (126.0 → 108.0 and 129.0 → 110.0 m/z ) were identified as being suitable candidates for quantifier ions for analyte taurine and internal standard and another product ion of (126 → 65 m/z ) was selected as qualifier ion. Mass spectrometer settings were optimised to enhance the signal of these ions.
Figure 7: Product ion scan of taurine standard; [M+H] + = 108.0 m/z
Figure 8: Product ion scan of 13 C 2
15 N taurine standard; [M+H] + = 111.0 m/z
Area ratios of peaks for taurine quantifier ion to qualifier ion was used to check ratios of sample peaks against those of an authentic taurine standard.
