AOAC Expert Review Panel Microbiology for Food and Environmental Surfaces ATTACHMENT 1 (FOLLOW-UP TELECONFERENCES)
I. FUTURE DISCUSSIONS AND TECHNICAL RECOMMMENDATIONS ERP will discuss, review and draft a consensus recommendation in the form of a technical recommendation to assist in the development of protocols and independent laboratory testing. The following motions were captured by the AOAC Expert Review Panel for Microbiology for Food and Environmental Surfaces that was held on May 6, 2019. A. Appendix J: AOAC International Methods Committee Guidelines for Validation of Microbiological Methods for Food and Environmental Surfaces MOTION: Motion by Carter; Second by Hitchins for the Expert Review Panel to request guidance from the Committee on Statistics regarding revisions to Appendix J. Consensus demonstrated by: (Unanimous) in favor, 0 opposed, and 0 abstentions. Motion Passed For the new protocols being submitted, is the current guidelines for fractional recovery acceptable? • RECOMMENDATION: Feedback from the statistics committee regarding the best approach. B. STATISTICAL REVIEW OF PROTOCOLS Consideration of the non-requirement of statistical reviews for microbiological protocols? • RECOMMENDATION: Statistical Review not required. C. MATRIX EXTENSIONS Modifications vs Matrix extensions, how many variations are acceptable? • MOTION: o When necessary, the method submitter can check with ERP regarding whether the matrix extension is part of an already validated food category for PTM and OMA. o In the case of a joint modification and matrix extension, a modification must be done first and then a matrix extension on the modified method.
