Motion for Approval I ask for a motion to approve the SMPR for Fructans with the following amendments:- 1) Remove scFOS structures and replace them with the general descriptions: (ß-D-Fru f -(2 →1)) n -ß-D-Fru f -(2 ↔ 1)-α-D-Glc p (ß-D-Fru f -(2 →1)) n -(2 Æ 1)-D-Fru f where n≥1 2) In the system suitability test add a check standard at the high point of the analytical range

Analyte Definition (GOS)

• Description of the analyte: Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) also known as oligogalactosyllactose, oligogalactose, or transgalactooligosaccharides (TOS) produced by transgalactosylation of lactose. • Rationale:

GOS are added to formula and adult nutritionals as a source of fibre / prebiotics to bring associated health benefits and as such levels are labeled and controled. The GOS used by industry for production of SPIFAN matrices are produced via trans- galactosylation of lactose.
