MEMORANDUM

Date:

7 September 2014

To:

AOAC INTERNATIONAL Board of Directors

From:

Shauna Roman – Chair, Official Methods Board

Subject:

AOAC Official Methods Board Update

I. OMB Vice Chair The OMB has completed the OMB vice chair selection process. I am proud to announce that Eric Crowley has been elected as vice chair of the OMB.

II. CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT GOAL-Method modification process Background:

A gap in the method modification process has been identified. The gap was specifically identified for methods without existing ERPs. In support of AOAC's goal of continual improvement, this topic was discussed during the July, OMB in-person meeting.

OMB decided that there are some points to consider when reviewing a method modification. This list was not intended to be an exhaustive list.

Points to Consider:  Do we have the experts (on the OMB) needed for a thorough review?  What is the impact (of the proposed modification) on Stakeholders ?  What is the current status of the methods (First Action, Final Action, how long?)  Should a new method number be considered?  What type of modification is being proposed? For example, does the modification: o Increase the cost of testing? o Require new equipment? o Require new chemicals? o Change the final result? o Etc.  Is the quality of science maintained?  Is the supporting data sufficient?  Are there any First to Final Action requirements?
