____________________________________________________________________________________ The Board of Directors has assessed your request for input on the adoption of the modifications to OMA 2009.01 and 2011.25. After review, the Board has determined that a more robust pathway is required before a method modification is adopted. Clearly, the “modified” methods 2009.01 and 2011.25 do not yield the same results as the original methods and therefore do not appear to measure the same fractions as “fiber.” Under the new AOAC processes, these changes do not represent methods that would fulfill the performance requirements for the originally adopted methods. It is therefore incumbent on the Official Methods Board to withdraw the approval for the modified methods pending the adoption of new Standard Method Performance Requirements. Once the SMPRs are approved by the appropriate Stakeholder Panel, the method author is encouraged to submit the modified method for review by an Expert Review Panel. The method chosen by this ERP would then move forward with a new OMA number in an openly vetted process.
