Administration and Management : Administrate; Industry, Federal and State sponsored research grants, fee-for-service contracts, consulting services, and a University of Wisconsin-Madison Foundation account. Manage large breeding colonies of Wisconsin Miniature Swine TM , Wisconsin Miniature Swine – Familial Hypercholesterolemia TM and Rapacz Familial Hypercholesterolemic Swine for agricultural and translational bio-medical research. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships. Hire full time, limited time and student hourly employees. Supervise and train; undergraduate, graduate, international scholars and professional personnel. Oversight over multiple Principal Investigator research program’s annual operational budget at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Manuscript preparation, grantsmanship, continuation applications, animal care and bio-safety protocols. Principal Investigator: Research emphasis in the fields of phytochemistry, mucosal immunology and cardiovascular disease. Responsible for generating operating funds through competitive intra- and extramural grants, sponsored research agreements and business service agreements with industry. Medical Imaging Instrumentation : Phased and linear array echocardiography ultrasound (GE, Siemens, Ultrasonix systems), C-arm fluoroscopy/x-ray, Optical Coherence Tomography, and Intravascular Ultrasound. Chemistry Instrumentation: Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (Bruker: Reflex II, Biflex II & Ultraflex), electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (Shimadzu LCMS 2010), high performance liquid chromatography (Waters, photo diode array detector / Empower & Millennium 32 software), counter current chromatography (Pharama-Tech). Repair, maintain and trouble-shoot instruments. Surgical (Large Animals) : Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) quantification of atherosclerosis and vasa vasorum, high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) arterial repair, transesophageal ultrasound identification of patent foramen ovale, radio- frequency ablation liver resection, dual energy x-ray (DEXA) analysis of body composition, subcutaneous placement of vascular access ports, Cesarean section, peripheral artery angioplasty to induce vascular lesions, implantation of intracranial pressure transducer. Surgical preparation, record keeping, anesthesia. Technical : Analytic, semi-preparative and preparative liquid chromatography. Folin Ciocaleau, Butanol-HCl, DMAC assays for quantification of polyphenols from foods/forages. Crude fiber (NDF, ADF and lignin) and protein (Kjeldahl) forage analysis. Histological techniques from tissue preparation, cryostat, microtome, histo-chemistry, and microscopy. Quality control, experimental design, record keeping, data analysis and results published.
