Microbial Screening for Salmonella spp. Screening method From AOAC Community on Color Additives
STEP 1: Test product AS IS initially to determine test assay compatibility STEP 2: Spike each product with low level (<10 CFU/test portion) of Salmonella STEP 3: Evaluate multiple dilutions, enrichment media, and enrichment times Enrichment: 1:10 or 1:20 dilution of product, buffered peptone water, 35 C, 18 ‐ 24 h incubation of 25 g samples Detection using GENE ‐ UP® Ten color additive products tested All products demonstrated acceptable organism recovery and detection of target organism Next step ‐ addition of the color additive turmeric to existing AOAC PTM 121802 through matrix extension
