A. Summary of the Method

The method uses colorimetric quantitation of total acetyl group contents to determine the contents of acetylated polysaccharides in Aloe vera. The method contains two steps of chemical reactions: first the acetyl groups that attached at the polysaccharides of aloe were reacted with hydroxylamine to form acetohydroxamic acid, which was further reacted with ferric trichloride to form a ferric-acetohydroxamic acid complex and was measured at 540 nm wavelength.
