 FAD and FMN occur as protein bound  flavoproteins in tissue, primarily bound to  albumin in serum.  FAD and FMN function as cofactors for a wide  variety of oxidative enzymes and remain bound to  the enzymes during the oxidation‐reduction  reactions.  FAD participates in the respiratory chain thus is  important in energy production  Flavins can act as oxidizing agents because of  their ability to accept a pair of hydrogen atoms.
