Stakeholder Panel Meeting Book - September 6, 2014

Analytical Challenges  Low levels of some inherent forms of  vitamins such as nicotinic acid and  Pyridoxamine.  Assuring that the extraction procedure is  adequate for total vitamin content.  Stability! Assuring lab conditions are  adequate for the testing of labile nutrients  such as Riboflavin.

Future Direction or Is LC/MS the Panacea of WSV testing?  WSVs are generally a natural fit for MS ionization.  Internal standards are available for almost all WSVs.  MS solves several detection issues with some WSVs such  as Thiamine and Niacin.  However you do still need considerable sample prep in  certain cases to get total vitamin content.  Many HPLC techniques can be very reliable, precise,  accurate, and potentially less complicated to perform.
