Vitamin B 1 , Thiamin “The first water‐soluble vitamin” First discovered in 1910 and gave birth to the term vitamine ( vital amine ) in 1912. Thiamin was first isolated and characterized in 1926, and was designated B 1 in 1927. The name thiamine is derived from thio‐ vitamine meaning the sulfur containing vitamin.

B 1 dependent processes are present in every cell in your body! The nervous system is particularly sensitive to B 1 deficiency due to the importance of oxidative metabolism The most common syndromes of B 1 deficiency are beriberi, Wernicke‐Korsakoff, and optic neuropathy.
