ISPAM Stakeholder Panel/Working Group Minutes August 26, 2018 Final Version

WELCOMES & INTRODUCTIONS David Schmidt (AOAC) welcomed everyone to the AOAC International Stakeholder Panel on Alternative Methods (ISPAM). DeAnn Benesh (3M & President of AOAC INTERNATIONAL Board of Directors) also addressed the attendees. The meeting was called to order by Erin Crowley (Q Laboratories, Inc.) who also led introductions. II. AOAC ISPAM GOALS/OVERVIEW/UPDATE Erin Crowley reviewed the AOAC ISPAM meeting agenda and goals. She also provided an overview of ISPAM and its working group activities, including an update on the development of the Standard Method Performance Requirements (SMPR®) for Food Allergens Peanut and the launching of Tree Nut. She also provided a summary of AOAC ISPAM activities between March 2018 through August 2018. III. WORKING GROUP CHAIR PRESENTATION(S) AND VOTE ON FINAL SMPR® PRESENTATION & FITNESS-FOR- PURPOSE FOR TREENUT Working Group Co-Chair, Jupiter Yeung (Nestlé) led the discussion and provided information and current status of the draft Standard Method Performance Requirement (SMPR®) for Food Allergens “Peanut” version 3.1. Motion : Steven Gendel moved and Wendy McMahon second to approve version 3.1 of the Food Allergens "Peanut" SMPR®. Vote: Motion passed unanimously 1. TREENUT SMPR® & FITNESS-FOR-PURPOSE : Working Group Co-Chair proposed to postpone the Tree Nut (hazelnut & almond) SMPR development (individual) until reference materials could be located. UPS has developed method materials and may be available for use. The stakeholder panel drafted a fitness-for-purpose statement which will be inclusive of the applicability for both hazelnut & almond. In addition, it was requested to provide guidance on what type of material, matrix, which allergens, target and cross reactivity. It was also proposed to form a subgroup to determine definitions. Motion : Steven Gendel moved and Kurt Johnson second to form a working group to develop reference materials. Vote: Motion passed unanimously Fitness-For-Purpose Statements Hazelnut: Quantitation of hazelnut using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-based assays in one or more foods such as:  Baked goods  Butter/paste  Cookies  Ice cream  Breakfast cereal  Chocolate  Milk or milk alternatives

Motion : to endorse the fitness for purpose statement for hazelnut Amend for adding milk alternatives Michael Brodsky moved and Yvonne Salfinger second
