AOAC 133rd Annual Meeting - Final Program
Waters Corporation 7:30 am – 8:00 am | Governor’s Square 15 Recent Advancements in Developing Reliable Analytical Solutions Eimear McCall, Waters Corporation Analytical methodologies for the testing of safe, nutritious and secure foods can require time consuming method development, optimization and data review. During the presentation, discover approaches taken and technical enhancements made to advance solutions for the determination of pesticides, including polar ionic pesticides, veterinary medicines, process contaminants and food additives. By considering the diversity of foodstuff samples from preparation to reporting on LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS, reliable and accurate solutions will be highlighted, providing a brighter horizon for the routine laboratory’s workflow. Exhibitor/Partner PRESENTATIONS
Agilent 12:00pm – 12:30pm | Governor’s Square 15 LC-MS/MS vs. LC-MS/MS & GC-MS/MS for the Certain Analysis of Pesticides in Cannabis Flower Dr. Anthony Macherone, Agilent Technologies & The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Pesticide analyses in cannabis flower is complicated because of the multitude of co-extractive endogenous chemicals and target analytes like pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB) that are not amenable to electrospray ionization (ESI). In this presentation we use Ni-APCI LC-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (Ni-APCI LC-QTOF) to prove the correct ionization mechanism for PCNB and evaluate the appropriateness of this analytical technique for PCNB in terms of selectivity, sensitivity, and the fit of the coeffi- cient of determination compared to GC-MS/MS methodologies. There is some misconception that this technique is only useful for qualitative work, however SPME can be used effectively for quantitative applications. Accurate quantitative methods can be developed using SPME if a few basic principles are applied. In this seminar, we will cover the activities involved in developing and validating a quantitative SPME method — specifically for determining alcohol content in Kombucha tea. This method was recently moved to first action official method status by AOAC INTERNATIONAL.
