AOAC BOD June 2018 Pre-Meeting Materials

Frazier reviewed the ongoing activities of SPSFAM. Frazier reported on the active funded working groups which included: sugar analysis and veterinary drug residues. Other potential areas for funded work are cannabis and coffee. 7.4 National Institutes of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements – SPDS Frazier reported on activities of the SPDS, which is entering its final contracted year in 2018. ERPs for ginger, protein analysis, folin c, free amino acids, and kratom were scheduled to be held December 14, 2018, at AOAC HQ. 7.5 International Stakeholder Panel on Alternative Methods – ISPAM Erin Crowley and Krystyna McIver reported on developments in ISPAM. Active working groups in ISPAM are: Modernizing the Food Microbiology Guidelines (OMA Appendix J), Food allergens (milk/quantitative methods), and Gluten in Oats. There is a potential for future work with micro cannabis methods. 7.6 US Department of Defense – SPADA McIver reported on the conclusion of a contract with JHU/DOD which resulted in the development of 10 SMPRs and a published paper on environmental panels. An additional $60,000 is available for AOAC in 2018, to finalize a publication summarizing all the standards work which has taken place through the contract. 8 Other Business and Next Meeting Benesh asked the guests for any additional updates or business. Meiklejohn announced the next Board of Directors meeting: March 12, 2018, 10AM – 12PM, ET; in conjunction with the Midyear Meeting.
