AOAC CASP Meeting

Comments Submitted Quantitation of cannabinoids in plant materials of hemp  (low THC varieties Cannabis sp.) Comment or Concern  Proposed Change(s)

In Table 1B: THCVA structure and CAS numbers are  incorrect (these are for THCV. Applicability: Lines 18‐21.

THCVA has carboxylic acid attached to it.  The CAS # is  39986‐26‐0. Applicability: Lines 18‐21.  (Based on the referenced  definition of total THC, lines 57‐58 the maximum  Potential percentage implies the contribution of THCA.)   I would suggest modification of lines 18‐21, Applicability  to read:

This statement is confusing in that the first sentence is  clearly specific to HPLC or LC/MS.  Does the second  sentence imply the method is applicable to GC‐FID or GC‐ MS if only total THC testing is required?

The method will be able to identify, and quantify  individual cannabinoids (as listed in Table 1a and Table  1b) and or total THC as defined in this SMPR in plant  materials expressed on a dry weight basis.

The method must be able to report total THC  regardless of how it is measured. Total THC: the maximum potential percentage w/w delta‐ 9 tetrahydrocannabinol that the test sample could yield  on a dry weight basis including delta‐9‐THC and delta‐9‐ THCA.
