5.0 5 6 Eight different food matrices, and two environmental samples, will be evaluated by Peel Plate EB and by 7 an appropriate reference method (Table 3). The stainless steel, chicken rinse with neutralizing buffered 8 peptone water (n-BPW), pasteurized milk, non-fat dry milk, probiotic infant cereal and probiotic infant 9 formula (milk based) will be analyzed by Q-laboratories. The butter, vanilla ice cream, infant formula 10 (soy based), non-probiotic cereal and chicken rinse with BPD will be analyzed by manufacturer. The 11 matrices will be validated according to Appendix J requirements (minimum of 3 contamination levels, 5 12 replicate portions tested from each level, plus an uncontaminated level, if appropriate). See Table 3 for 13 recommended contamination levels. Naturally contaminated product may be mixed with 14 uncontaminated product to achieve appropriate levels. If naturally contaminated product cannot be 15 obtained for any of the matrices, then artificially contaminated lots can be prepared in accordance with 16 the recommended contamination levels. For artificially contaminated matrices, the uncontaminated 17 level must be included. 18 19 NOTE : Pasteurized whole milk, butter, non-fat dry milk, probiotic infant formula, non-probiotic infant 20 formula and infant cereal w/o probiotics will be evaluated for AOAC and MicroVal review.
