Appendix 2: Spiking materials for Barley and Rye 287 288 Our goal was to select the barley and rye varieties most likely to contaminate oats. Using data 289 for planting acres from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, the Manitoba Agricultural 290 services Corporation, and the USDA Agricultural Statistics Service, we selected barley and rye 291 cultivars common to the oat growing regions of Canada and the United States. Samples were 292 obtained from the breeding programs at North Dakota State University with the help of Dr. 293 Richard Horsley, Department Head of the Department of Plant Sciences and Steve Zwinger, 294 Research Specialist at the Carrington Research Extension Center.
