Food Authenticity Program Meeting Book (March 13, 2020)

SMPR Definition Description: A ssessment parameters on the performance of Non-Targeted Testing methods to monitor EVOO for the probable presence of Economically Motivated Adulterants (EMA). Rationale: To evaluate Non-Targeted Testing (NTT) methods developed to assess potential economic adulteration in EVOO. Designed to be applicable to a broad range of innovative analytical platforms and chemometric approaches. Binary analytical results of “Authentic” or “Not Authentic”. The Authentic Sample Collection Process must be defined in the method. Defines the matrix scope of the method. New Approach Implications:

Method scope not designated in SMPR. Details on next slide. The MLV study will require blind samples prepared by third-party.

Specific Performance Claims

Authentic Samples Samples representative of the genuine commodity representing natural variability. Will generate product baseline fingerprint Will define NTT method testing scope. Documentation must contain feeding protocols. Authentic sample documentation will be reviewed by the ERP to verify method scope. Suggested parameters include country of origin, extraction process, and applicable analytical tests such as content of fat, protein, fatty acid profiles, polyphenols, and phytosterols. Additional information can be included. SLV will include adulterated materials shown in Table 1. MLV will include blinded samples containing unknown adulterants.
