VALIDATION LEVELS CONT’D Level Three • This is a multi-laboratory validation level. Level Three validation employs a minimum of one additional collaborating laboratory and the originating laboratory. The acceptance criteria are similar to the AOAC full collaborative study level with comparison to an existing reference method when appropriate.

Level Four • This validation level has criteria equivalent to a full AOAC or ISO Collaborative Study. It is designed to measure inter-laboratory reproducibility, so that it can be determined if the method can be successfully performed by laboratories other than the originating laboratory.
