AOAC FOOD AUTHENTICITY/FRAUD PROGRAM

Joe Boison, Ph.D., EJ Consultancy Targeted Testing (TT) Analysis Working Group Chair

Dr. Boison is a retired Senior Research Scientist with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and holds 2 Adjunct Professor Faculty positions (one in the Chemistry Department and the other in the Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences) at the University of Saskatchewan.

In 2003, he was appointed a Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation (FWIF) and was appointed to serve as a subject matter expert for the Canadian Government Delegation to the Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF). He was awarded the CFIA President’s National Award for Leadership Excellence in 2010 and in 2012 he was appointed a Fellow of the AOACI. Dr. Boison’s involvement with the AOAC dates back to 1991 when he first accepted an appointment as an Expert Reviewer for Rapid Test Kits to work with Scott Coates at the inception of AOAC Research Institute. He has since held positions of General Referee/Process Expert, Topic Advisor, Study Director, Expert Reviewer, Scientific Editor and member of the AOAC RI Board of Directors. He was appointed to the Editorial Board, AOAC International in 2011, and received the 2011 AOAC Process Expert General Referee Award. In 2015, he was awarded AOAC International’s highest scientific award, the Harvey W. Wiley Award for Lifetime Scientific Achievement. In 2007, Dr. Boison was appointed a member of the FAO/WHO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), and a Section Editor for Veterinary Drug Residues for the Journal of AOAC International. After accepting an appointment as an Expert Reviewer for veterinary drugs in 2007, Boison served on several Expert Review and Stakeholder Panels (ERPs) and provided scientific leadership directing/chairing the ERP meetings that resulted in the recommendation to the OMB of 2 methods
