Food Authenticity Program Meeting Book (March 13, 2020)

The FCC non-targeted guidance provides validation steps on how to develop and validate a non-targeted method, which are helpful information for stakeholders.

Add: Appendix XVIII: Guidance on Developing and Validating Non-Targeted Methods for Adulteration Detection. The reference should read: United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Appendix XVIII: Guidance on Developing and Validating Non- targeted Methods for Adulteration Detection. Food Chemicals Codex, 3rd supplement to 11th ed.; USP: Rockville, MD, 2019.

Reference added to all 3 SMPRs.

L48-50: the citation missing this very reference.

What is meant by “ideally”? Seems conditionally vague and open to different interpretations.

Recommend better clarify statement overall.

Excellent observation. "Ideally" removed from all 3 SMPRs.

Concerning sampling of reference honeys I think it would be important to mention that taking a sample directly from the hive doesn’t necessarily mean that it is authentic per se. If a beekeeper is feeding during honey production which will lead to substantial amounts of syrup being stored in the honeycombs, the resulting “honey” is a risk that everybody needs to be made aware of when defining a sample as authentic reference.

Documentation for authentic honey samples must contain any feeding protocols used in the production of the honey to properly authenticate the material.
