John Szpylka, Ph.D. Food Safety Net Services

Chair, Non-Targeted Testing Analysis Working Group Dr. John Szpylka is an analytical chemist with over 25 years’ experience in the food industry and food testing arena. Currently John is the Chemistry R&D Manager with Food Safety Net Services (FSNS). He was formerly with Mérieux NutriSciences where he managed nutritional analytical method development and was a technical leader for chemistry testing

in North America. Prior to joining Mérieux NutriSciences, John was a Principal Scientist with General Mills where he oversaw the development and operation of food analytical methods. John is an active representative to key scientific organizations and regulatory agencies to identify and contribute to food testing standardization for nutritional needs and arising issues. John Szpylka is a Fellow of AOAC International and past chair of the AOACI Official Methods Board . He currently chairs the Non-Targeted Testing Working Group for the AOACI Food Authenticity Initiative. John also serves on other AOACI Stakeholder Panels and Expert Review Panels and is active in other organizations including AACCI (chair of Carbohydrates & Fiber Technical Division), AOCS, AAFCO (Methods Committee consultant), ACIL, DSQAP, ASTA, and GMA. John received his doctorate in analytical chemistry from the Ohio State University after receiving a B.S. in chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
